We have been writing music together for many years having performed and recorded with a range of musicians too numerous to mention. Our ability to work across a diverse range of genres keeps us enjoying this amazing, exciting and painful musical game with passion and addiction. From live to studio, full pop, obscure, film and BBC Jingles. We at Markov want to write, have to write, and love every minute.
We live in Northampton, UK, and have been good friends for many years. We initially met when we both joined a new band, probably around 1981. John came from a prog-rock background and was in to Led Zep, Deep Purple, Floyd but also had a liking for anything melodic! Michael was more of a punk/mod/new romantic type. Anyway, we discovered we had a talent of writing really good songs together.
We formed ‘Georgi Markov’s Empire‘, (circa Soft Cell) and wrote many songs and had a strong following. We played all over the UK. We also worked with Howard Stableford and created jingles and backing tracks for the BBC. We then merged with another local band, ‘Nation 3‘, to form ‘Ten Towers‘. In Ten Towers we again gigged all over the UK and appeared on TV.
Mick has collaborated with a couple of DJ’s to produce several indie label 12 inch EP’s specifically for the underground dance market under the guise of Lyne Tu.
John currently performs with Gidea Park – a hit 80′s band that performs songs by The Beach Boys, Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons and The Hollies. He plays alongside Alan Carvell who has had hits of his own, and sings on many albums recorded by mainstream artists such as Elton John and Take That to name just a few. He has also performed with Mick Avory and John Dalton of Kinks fame.
We have also worked with filmakers, Section2films, providing music for two of their films.
We must take the opportunity to thank Nigel Girling who played guitar on several of the songs on our first album, Chains. Nigel has worked with a range of musicians including David Bowie, keep an ear out for more of Nigel’s magic on forthcoming tracks.
